To perform the duties of this position, this position requires at minimum a Class V Virginia Water Operator License prior to appointment. If this information is not provided in the application documents, applicants will receive no further consideration. 60% of the duties of this position will be operating the water systems in the park. Daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of the system in order to meet the standards set forth by the Federal and State Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Performs periodic inspections and servicing of pumps, chlorinators, and electrical control mechanisms on outlying water systems with hypo-chlorinators. Checks chlorine residual of potable water and adjusts chlorine feed rate to keep it within tolerable limits. Must be able to disassemble, clean, overhaul, and reassemble chlorinators as required. Obtaining samples and performing laboratory tests. 30% of the duties of this position will be operating the wastewater collection and distribution systems within the park. Keeps accurate logs on the various phases of operation, tank clean outs, and laboratory test results. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly inspections and servicing of mechanical equipment such as, valves, compressors, motors, centrifugal, macerator, air lift pumps, automatic controls such as electrical relays, time delay switches, and pump start-stop switches. Inspects and maintains the collection system that consists of gravity sewer lines, manholes, sewage force mains, and lift stations. Performs plumbing duties in the maintenance buildings and utilities. The work involves making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and seeking defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe, and leaky drains. Duties may include cutting and fitting various piping such as galvanized, copper, and iron; threading and preparing pipes for connection. 10% of the duties of this position will be performing electrical duties including troubleshooting and testing existing electrical lines, circuits, fixtures, controls and equipment. The incumbent will operate gasoline and diesel powered vehicles with a gross weight less than 26,000 pounds. This position may serve as a Contracting Officers Representative (COR) requiring a Contracting Officer's Representative Certification. Area Information:

Fredericksburg, Virginia is approximately 45 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 60 miles north of Richmond, Virginia. The colonial and Civil War history of the area, as well as many recreational opportunities on local waterways and natural areas make the Fredericksburg area a popular tourist destination. The park's battlefields and historic structures span four counties in the Fredericksburg area, with the highest population density being in the City of Fredericksburg, Stafford County and Spotsylvania County areas. Many options for schools, shopping, dining, cultural opportunities and medical care are easily accessed. Within a short drive from these growing populations centers, you will find yourself in the more rural and scenic Virginia countryside. Licensure/Certification Requirement:
At the time of appointment, must possess a Class V Virginia Water Operator License or higher. Within one year of appointment, must be able to obtain and secure a Class IV Virginia Water Operator License.
