These positions are located in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP. The primary purpose of these positions it is provide guide services to visitors. Responsible for the basic operations of a visitor center, historic structure or contact station which may include staffing an information desk, answering visitor questions, announcing programs, following procedures for opening and closing the facility, providing basic security for buildings and resources, explaining park regulations, maintaining audiovisual equipment, and record keeping. Presents pre-established talks, guided walking tours, guided bus tours and special events of the Civil War battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House for park visitors. Provides informal interpretation on an almost continual basis. Under the direction of the park's education coordinator, supports the park's education program by presenting activity based and curriculum-based programs to school-aged children. Supports special events and presentation serves on park committees and in support of other occasional initiatives as assigned. This position is located in the Interpretation Division of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. Please visit Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP for additional park information. Fredericksburg, Virginia is approximately 45 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 60 miles north of Richmond, Virginia. The colonial and Civil War history of the area, as well as many recreational opportunities on local waterways and natural areas make the Fredericksburg area a popular tourist destination. The park's battlefields and historic structures span four counties in the Fredericksburg area, with the highest population density being in the City of Fredericksburg, Stafford County and Spotsylvania County areas. Many options for schools, shopping, dining, cultural opportunities and medical care are easily accessed. Within a short drive from these growing populations centers, you will find yourself in the more rural and scenic Virginia countryside. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
giving oral presentations of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups; and could include work as a park guide or tour leader, naturalist, environmental educator, or teacher. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in American history, science, or public speaking; or that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such as American history, science, and/or public speaking. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. (Note:
Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to 1 year of specialized experience.) To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours completed in excess of the first 60 hours and divide by 60. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
